  • Thera P,

Did you happen to catch the Huff Po blog that claimed that Independent Women from CO preferred Palin. They said: "Palin was more genuine. She's a mom," one said. "She's more herself, just the way she talks -- it's down to earth,". I though WT.., but then I noticed the group behind this was WVWV-a group that TPM and others (including Wired, & Daily Kos) followed during the primary for their robo-calls to Af Am in attempt to suppress the Af Am vote. Even after they were warned by Virginia police in February, they continued their efforts in other states. I wonder if these are PUMAs-do you know anything on this?

  • Sen Obama, who opposed ole Hans for the FEC said of him:

"From 2001 to 2005, von Spakovsky served as an official at the Justice Department's Civil Rights Division where he amassed a record of undermining voting rights, creating restrictions that would make it harder for poor and minority communities to vote, and putting partisan politics above upholding our civil rights. "

Gee, I wonder if he will hold a grudge?

Election commission: 57,000 ballots were cast in ’06

Mideast edition, Tuesday, September 25, 2007

WASHINGTON — Overseas military voters had less than half of their votes counted in last year’s congressional elections, according to data released by the U.S. Election Assistance Commission on Monday.

“One thing is clear: At every level of government, we need to do a better job,” said Donetta Davidson, chair of the commission. “We must make sure all eligible voters are getting their opportunities.”

The figures, released at the commission’s annual conference on ways to improve and troubleshoot the absentee voting process, showed that only about 992,000 of the nearly 6 million eligible overseas citizens requested ballots for the 2006 general election.

That included about 119,000 military personnel stationed outside the United States. Of those, only about 57,000 — less than 48 percent — had their votes successfully cast or counted.

  • I've always wondered if Ney was targeted (one of so many) because of his Iranian connections. Not only had did he teach in Iran but he was the only member of congress to speak Farsi. In May of 2003, Ney delivered an Iranian Proposal for Negotiations to Karl Rove. Was his influence w Iran a possible threat to the neocons?

He also voted against the Patriot Act, CAFTA, Medicaid cuts and cuts to after school programs, but on the other side he gave us "freedom fries" and was instrumental in establishing HAVA in his role of Chair of the House Administration Committee.

Why was Ney targeted when so many others were not? I've thought perhaps he would get in the way of Iran.

  • Hillary will never be elected president w/o very blatant election fraud. She is despised by the anti-war left and those who oppose corporatization of the Democratic Party, and she also brings out the GOP base for the Republicans.

Look who initially funded the Clintons-Jackson Stephens, the same financier behind BCCI, Walmart, Tyson, WTI Toxic Waste Incinerator and both Bushs. The Clintons were a way for the Dems and the GOP to form a one party-THE MONEY PARTY system.

I agree with you that Bill, Hillary and the old gang are NOT working in the Democratic Party's best interests.

  • Hillary on the ticket will bring out the GOP base for McCain. Don't forget that a big portion of the 18 million after March 4th were GOP cross-over voters egged on by Limbaugh and other RW hacks. They were willing to hold their noses and vote for Hillary to disrupt our primary outcome, not because they plan to vote for her.

The DLC did enough damage in the Clinton years with NAFTA, Most Favored Trade Status for China, the Telecom Act of '96, and repealing Glass-Steagall (which lead to banking mergers). Although it might have been good short term for some, the effects of DLC policies have been disastrous to most except the chosen few at the top incomes.

  • Isn't the larger issue (over a VP choice) that members of the (DLC Lieberman and now Bayh) were complicit in "propagandizing" bush's war in Iraq?

The DLC/PNAC (need a New Pearl Harbor) ties also include Will Marshall, president of PPI (the DLC thinktank) who was a signatory to a PNAC issued letter expressing support for the war.
