Paul McNulty

Paul McNulty is the Deputy Attorney General for the Department of Justice. In February of 2007, McNulty testified to the Senate Judicial Committee that –with the exception of US Attorney Bud Cummins (AR)- all recent firings of US Attorneys were motivated by "performance related" issues.

On February 6, 2007, Paul McNulty testified to the Senate Judiciary Committee on behalf of the Justice Department regarding the recent firing of US Attorneys. McNulty claimed that seven of the eight attorneys were fired for “performance-related reasons.” He said the eighth, US Attorney Bud Cummins, was removed to make room for the appointment of Tim Griffin, a former aide to Karl Rove.

Mcnulty lated called Senator Charles Schumer (D-NY) to apologize for inaccuracies in his testimony, claiming that he had been misled in preparing his testimony. McNulty further claimed that the innacuracies in his testimony were not cases of poor due diligence, but rather were the result of information intentionally withheld from him by Kyle Sampson.
