Texas Nationalists Rally For Secession At Capitol

If at first you don't secede ... rally at the Texas Capitol and try again.

That's how the Texas Nationalist Movement on Saturday celebrated Texas Independence Day, the AP reports:

"Texas can take better care of itself than Washington," said Lauren Savage, vice president of the movement. "We are here to raise interest in the Legislature of the possibility of secession to cure the ills of America."

South Carolina NAACP President Rips Secession Ball Gala

Several new details have emerged from the divisive secession ball held Monday in Charleston, South Carolina -- a gala dedicated to the 150th anniversary of the state's signing of the Ordinance of Secession.

About 120 protesters marched in opposition to the event, carrying signs of protest and singing "We Shall Overcome." South Carolina NAACP President Lonnie Randolph, who joined the protest, told TPM in a phone interview this week that he felt the need to speak out against the ball, calling the secession "the greatest act of terrorism" waged on America.

South Carolinians Celebrate 150th Anniversary Of Secession

South Carolinians literally had a ball last night celebrating the 150th anniversary of the start of the Civil War. The secession ball, organized by the Confederate Heritage Trust -- and sponsored by the Sons of Confederate Veterans -- reportedly featured a 45-minute theatrical play re-enacting the signing of the Ordinance of Secession, where South Carolina declared its intention to secede from the union.

Tea Partier Suggests Secession As Antidote to 'Tyranny Of National Government'

A North Carolina Tea Party group is promoting the idea of secession as a solution to the "tyranny of national government."

The email newsletter of North Carolina Freedom Project contains an item entitled by "Solutions to the tyranny of national government." The item proposes two such solutions. The first, described as "incremental," involves embracing "tentherism" -- the bogus belief, espoused lately by some on the far right, that many of the powers of the federal government are unconstitutional.
