Reports: Feds Investigating WV Gov Manchin's Former Aide

West Virginia Governor Joe Manchin (D)

A federal grand jury is reportedly investigating West Virginia Gov. Joe Manchin's administration, including a firm owned by his former chief of staff.

Manchin, who is also the state's Democratic candidate for U.S. Senate, has not been directly implicated in the investigation, Politico reports.

West Virginia GOP Launches Anti-Voter Fraud Effort

The Republican Party in West Virginia has launched a state-wide anti-voter fraud effort that includes poll workers, what they have termed ballot security teams and "Stop Voter Fraud" signs.

"We'll be watching courthouses, county clerks, absentee ballot filing, early voting protocols, how those things are done," Robert Cornelius of the West Virginia GOP told TPMMuckraker.

Report: FBI Opens Criminal Probe Of Massey Energy

The FBI has launched a criminal investigation of the Massey Energy Co. mine where earlier this month an explosion killed 29 West Virginia miners, according to the Associated Press.

Citing an unnamed law enforcement official, the wire service reported that the FBI has interviewed nearly two-dozen of the company's current and former employees in its probe of the April 5 accident.
